I am a mom. You may not be able to see my baby, but he/she is about 14 weeks, 3 days old and just learned how to grimace, frown, squint, and pee. My baby was never merely a "bunch of cells", or simply a "product of conception". My baby was a miracle.

We had been trying to get pregnant since the day I got off the pill- October 9, 2006. After 4.5 agonizingly nightmarish years and a lifetime of pain and tears, Randy and I learned on December 17, 2010 that we were parents to a baby that most of the world wouldn't consider anything other than the "bunch of cells" or "products of conception" that I mentioned above. It was and is so much more to me- to us. It IS A MIRACLE.

I am not afraid to admit that I find inspiration in the saddest moments of life. The "never give up" attitude was introduced to at me at the tender age of 13 when my dad was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer. However, I think that my "never give up" attitude came through genetics- I have always been as stubborn as my father, and if I set my mind to something and make a goal, I try and try again until that goal is completed or another goal has taken over. God has had to show me MANY times that the goals I have had in mind were not His goals, and it's been a very painful lesson (one that I learned the past 4+ years all over again). But I digress.... I found inspiration in my dad's death when I was two months shy of my 16th birthday- I NEVER wanted his death to be in vain. I decided then that some kind of good and glory to God would come out of it.

Fast forward to 2006- I graduated 2 colleges, married the Christian man of my dreams- and got my first nursing job on an oncology floor. I found/find inspiration in the daily struggles I see at work, and am blessed by all the patients I come into contact with (some more than others- ha!) but I feel like, in a way, my dad's death has been turned into something GOOD and of GOD. Inspiration through sadness, once again.

When I started realizing that I had a fertility problem, all I could think was "God-why this? Why can't I just have this one thing?" At first, I was trusting and believing that God would make this happen for us. I ignored people who meant well but would tell me "just relax" or "stop trying and it'll happen". Then as the pregnancy test would be negative and I would see failure come out of me into a toilet month after month, I began to pull away from God and I just got angry. Disappointed. I stopped trying alright, but it wasn't to have kids. I stopped trying to have a relationship with God.

Many cycles of Clomid, insemination, shots, and ultrasounds later, and we were still unsuccessful. October 13, 2010 found me on a operating room table with a scope and tools inside me, trying to locate the "problem" of my infertility. Eureka! A little endometriosis shaved off, and a nice 2 week long recovery, and my doctor told me she'd like to do one more cycle of Clomid and insemination in a "last ditch effort" before going on to the most extreme fertility treatment- IVF.

It was then when I started really praying again. Opened a line of communication between myself and God. He never left me or stopped trying to get a hold of me, I was just ignoring his calls. I decided to read my Bible again, and after meeting with my spiritual guidance counselor (ha ha - I'm sure my good friend Suzie would love her new title!!), I opened my Bible and out fell a bulletin of a sermon I had taken notes on back in 2001. In my OWN WRITING- at the top- was "God's timing is ALWAYS perfect!!!" and underneath it "Romans 12:12". I looked up the verse through tears- and excitement because WOW! God used ME to talk to MYSELF after 9 years!!! Romans 12:12 says "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer". Ok, God had my attention. Which gets Satan's attention too.

The very next time I drove to work that same week, I was listening to some crap hip-hop music and I felt God say to me "Change the station". I did, to Christian music. Right away I felt attacked- like all these thoughts were going through my head about how I'm not good enough to be a mom, and it'd be better for my inlaws if I weren't alive because at least Randy could give them grandkids with someone else" etc... Horrible things. I loudly rebuked Satan in my car and the thoughts and feelings of desparation left- and I went on driving to work listening to my Christian music, as I have every day since then. It has truly made a difference in my mood going into working the difficult job I do- and I am full of God's peace at the start of my shift!

One more attempt at fertility treatments before moving on to the "Biggie" (a.k.a. In vitro fertilization)- was on Dec 1st and 2nd 2010. Prior to and during the insem I was completely relaxed, I had people praying for me, and I really felt like it was in God's hands. He's never left me. I declined a vaccination the week after, telling the employee health nurse to stop- moments before she put the needle in my arm- because I could be pregnant. I was confident in my words. My beloved husband took me out for all you can eat sushi the week of our final insemination- and I thought "This hopefully will be the last time I will eat sushi for 9 months"! It was!

December 17, 2010 I found out we were pregnant on the floor of our bedroom with my beloved by my side. There weren't enough tears of joy as we called everyone we knew to tell them the miraculous news. Hope was/is ALIVE! Our ultrasounds have been great, I graduated from my fertility doctor about 8 weeks along since I was doing so well. My OB doc is awesome and is part of the family of doctors I loved and worked with down at my first job in LA at Cedars Sinai. I haven't had any morning sickness (other than my tummy not feeling so great after eating Lean Cuisines!). No pukage! Everything's great.

I went shopping for maternity clothes 2 weekends ago and spent $207. I am already having to wear the pants and a couple of shirts. :-) My Indiana baby shower planning is already under way, and I did a lot of cleaning of closets these past two days- my first "nesting" experience, perhaps?

I will NEVER forget my experience of infertility. The want- the need- the desire- the feelings of failure- the doubt-the tears- the hope that got destroyed month after month. I do and will find inspiration in the sadness I experienced. Some people have said "Wasn't it all worth it?" Um...no. In my opinion, that's like saying to a widow who's getting remarried "wasn't it worth your first husband dying so that you could meet and marry this new guy?". NO! It doesn't make it worth it, but let me tell ya: it makes you realize just how special life is. I sure do know how to count my blessings and to thank God properly for the LIFE and those in my life He has given me. I don't deserve all the love- who does? But God didn't give up on me, even when I tried to give up on him.

I am now going to go to the bathroom, knowing it will be the first of many trips to that room I will make tonight, lay down in bed next to my beloved, tell my baby how much he/she is loved, turn onto my side, and thank God before I go to sleep for my LIFE.

I came across this article on McDonalds- all I have to say is oh my gosh. How many of these things did I eat growing up!?! McNuggets were my favorite thing to eat at McDonalds when I was younger!

These two paragraphs are taken directly from The Omnivore’s Dilemma (by Michael Pollen):

“The ingredients listed in the flyer suggest a lot of thought goes into a nugget, that and a lot of corn. Of the thirty-eight ingredients it takes to make a McNugget, I counted thirteen that can be derived from corn: the corn-fed chicken itself; modified cornstarch (to bind the pulverized chicken meat); mono-, tri-, and diglycerides (emulsifiers, which keep the fats and water from separating); dextrose; lecithin (another emulsifier); chicken broth (to restore some of the flavor that processing leeches out); yellow corn flour and more modified cornstarch (for the batter); cornstarch (a filler); vegetable shortening; partially hydrogenated corn oil; and citric acid as a preservative. A couple of other plants take part in the nugget: There's some wheat in the batter, and on any given day the hydrogenated oil could come from soybeans, canola, or cotton rather than corn, depending on the market price and availability.

According to the handout, McNuggets also contain several completely synthetic ingredients, quasiedible substances that ultimately come not from a corn or soybean field but form a petroleum refinery or chemical plant. These chemicals are what make modern processed food possible, by keeping the organic materials in them from going bad or looking strange after months in the freezer or on the road. Listed first are the "leavening agents": sodium aluminum phosphate, mono-calcium phosphate, sodium acid pyrophosphate, and calcium lactate. These are antioxidants added to keep the various animal and vegetable fats involved in a nugget from turning rancid. Then there are "anti-foaming agents" like dimethylpolysiloxene, added to the cooking oil to keep the starches from binding to air molecules, so as to produce foam during the fry. The problem is evidently grave enough to warrant adding a toxic chemical to the food: According to the Handbook of Food Additives, dimethylpolysiloxene is a suspected carcinogen and an established mutagen, tumorigen, and reproductive effector; it's also flammable. But perhaps the most alarming ingredient in a Chicken McNugget is tertiary butylhydroquinone, or TBHQ, an antioxidant derived from petroleum that is either sprayed directly on the nugget or the inside of the box it comes in to "help preserve freshness." According to A Consumer's Dictionary of Food Additives, TBHQ is a form of butane (i.e. lighter fluid) the FDA allows processors to use sparingly in our food: It can comprise no more than 0.02 percent of the oil in a nugget. Which is probably just as well, considering that ingesting a single gram of TBHQ can cause "nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ears, delirium, a sense of suffocation, and collapse." Ingesting five grams of TBHQ can kill.”

My step-dad and mom are going to Graceland today in celebration of her 62nd birthday. I RRREEAAALLLLLYYYY want to be there right now with them, road-tripping to Memphis and cruising down Elvis Presley Boulevard. After Graceland, they are going to Tupelo, MS to see Elvis' birthplace. Lucky them!

Graceland is awesome. The last time I made my pilgrimage was in 1999, after Elvis' aunt Delta died and the curators of Graceland decided to show the kitchen on the tour of his house. The tickets to see the mansion, airplanes (2 of them), and the "Sincerely, Elvis" museum cost $18 back then. Probably more now. I really want to go. Did I say that already?

You know how tigers are becoming extinct creatures, right? Well, sounds like some scientists are doing something about it- IVF. That's right, in-vitro fertilization.

Zoologists are taking a tiger's egg, another's sperm, fertilizing them in a petri dish, and implanting them in a female LION. Lions do well with pregnancy and giving birth in captivity, while Tigers don't. Turns out- it's working- Lions in captivity are now giving birth to Tigers and are raising them as their own (despite the stripes and different colors). The next time you go to the zoo, you may see a lion carrying around her little tiger cubs- weird!

Randy brought up a good point though. Tigers are pretty much solitary animals and lions are pack animals- so won't that totally change how tigers are? Maybe, but I guess at least they can save a species that way.

CHRISTMAS IN INDIANA

Christmas this year was bittersweet for my family. We are all missing my grandpa and feeling his absence. On the other hand, I got to spend some good quality time with a couple of friends, as well as my family on Christmas day. We had a great time hanging out, playing games, and just being with each other. Mom made a fantastic Christmas dinner too. Christmas night it began to snow! It was so peaceful...watching the cold white stuff cover everything. I had hoped for a white Xmas, and it happened!
We thought we were flying back on Tuesday afternoon, but our airplane had some kind of mechanical problem. So our flight was canceled and Randy and I ended up staying all night in Indianapolis in a hotel the airline chose. We went downtown Indy, ate dessert and had drinks in a rotating restaurant in one of the hotel high rises. Talk about romantic! The next morning, we flew out of Indy at 6 am (3 am California time), had a layover in Atlanta GA, then in Austin TX, and FINALLY we made it into LA at 1:30pm Wednesday. I ended up coming down with the same cold Randy had for the past week, so I called into work sick on Wednesday night and we both fell asleep by 8 pm. Whew! What a Christmas vacation! It's a sad, sad day at our house

Randy, Nick, and Andy took off work tomorrow so that they could sit all night long outside Target, so that when the store opens tomorrow they would be able to each buy a brand spankin' new Playstation 3. I went by Target today around 12 noon, and already there's a line of about 20 people waiting to buy the 12 the store was selling. I went to KMart then, and the electronics guy told me that they were supposed to get 2 but he had just received a call that none would be coming. He did have some advice, though- he said he had just talked to someone at Sam's Club and they had theirs in stock already, and the line outside the store wasn't long at all. So, off I went to Sams and low and behold- 2 people were in line! I was excited- I called Randy and he was excited too- but all hope faded fast as the first guy in line told me that the manager had just come out and said that they only have one to sell- maybe another will come overnight. That's one. A single solitary Playstation. That means one of the guys in a line of two will be able to get one. What a crock of you-know-what. I went home and called every store in Ventura County that would possibly get some in, and most of them said they were getting 2 or 3 but had lines atleast 20 people long. Fryes' manager said that store was getting 20 consoles, but 40 people were already in line. I even called stores in Indiana where my sister lives, her best friend lives, and my parents live (three separate towns). Same story there- 20 people for every 1-2 consoles. I'm holding out hope that my step-dad's friend who is a manager at Target will be able to get one for him. But, as the old saying goes, I won't be counting my eggs until they're hatched.

Sorry Randy. I tried. I think we should just boycott Sony for good. Corporate jerks (that's the nicest thing that can be said about them).

Grandpa's Memorial Service

I know that I'm a little late getting these up, but this is really the first time I've had to download pics since I've been back from Indiana. I really had a good time at the party, despite what was going on in my own family life in Indiana. Thank you to everyone at the party for cheering me up, praying for my family, and thank you to Melanie for spending the day with me and taking me to the airport. You all rock and I'm so blessed to have great family and friends like you. :-)

"Little Miss Sunshine"...

...is an excellent movie! Randy and I went and saw it tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. There were sad parts (Randy even cried once) and absolutely hilarious parts. Steve Carell, Greg Kinnear and the rest of the cast were brilliant. We give it four thumbs up!

The best part of the movie was that some of it was filmed at Ventura's very own Crowne Plaza Hotel and the pier. Everyone in the theatre, including us, were surprised and started laughing when it started showing the hotel and surrounding areas. I didn't know that they had filmed here- why wasn't I notified???!?!?!

Go see it if you can put up with some swearing. Or wait until it hits ABC Family, fully edited, in 5 years. It'll still be a great movie then too.

My chances of twins are looking even better!

Ok- here comes one of my rantings.

Why in hell did New Orleans (and/or Louisiana government, and/or the NFL, and whomever else) spend $185,000,000 to clean up, remodel, and reopen a stadium when half the population remaining there and left homeless from Hurricane Katrina is still living in substandard housing (if they are even that lucky)???? Shouldn't the government be spending all those millions of dollars on something worthwhile, such as scraping bacteria and mold off the streets, rebuilding/remodeling hospitals and the healthcare system in New Orleans, and, well anything else besides an entertainment complex?!?!?!? What is wrong with this picture????!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like a justifiable answer please. Not just "if you build it, they will come" or "It's good for city morale". What a crock of s*#@!

Since today, September 18th, is their anniversary, this post is dedicated to two of the most loving people I know- my husbands parents, Randy and Jacquie. You both are loved by everyone and I am so grateful that I married into such a wonderful family.

This past weekend, we threw Randy and Jacquie a surprise 30th anniversary party. It was a giant feat to attempt, since usually we can't put anything past them. No one spoiled the secret, however, invitations were sent, and the party was on. After a long dinner in Ojai, we showed up at the Bang's house and SURPRISE!!!! Randy and Jacquie were surrounded by people who love them and have shared their life and love with them over the past 30 years.

Lord of the Rings

After failing miserably at watching LOTR a few years back (I fell asleep both times), Randy and I finally watched the triology over this past week, finishing up late last night with "Return of the King". I really liked the movies' plots, but at the end I just wished they'd all stop fighting and get over it. I didn't want to see any more orcs get their heads smashed off, and I was tired of Frodo and his attitude. Sam had to have a lot of patience to put up with a whiny, lazy brat like Frodo. I just wanted the hobbits to get back to the Shire, Gollum to be dead, and for Liv Tyler to hook up with Stridor (and for Eowyn to back off of him- he's taken!!!!). Don't get me wrong- I liked the movies, but they were way too long I think. Plus, the only thing I keep on asking is why couldn't Gandolph's special eagle friend just take Frodo to the volcano and let him throw the ring off in the first place? I've never read the books, but is Frodo portrayed as an idiot as much as he is in the film?

I am here in Indiana right now, listening to the rain pouring outside the window. The lightning is bright and the thunder is loud. Just found out that there's a tornado watch out tonight. For those of you who do not know what a tornado watch is, basically the conditions are perfect for a tornado to form but none have been spotted.

It's been a really long time since I have enjoyed a good Indiana summer rain storm, and I'm loving it! The good thing? Atleast if a tornado comes in the middle of the night, I can see now (without relying on my glasses) to get myself into the hallway or into our crawlspace. The crawlspace is probably filled with spiders and that would be way too much for me to handle. I prefer our hallway, although dragging the mattress out to cover us is a pain.

I miss "my" Randy and wish he was experiencing this with me.

Enough ramblings for now. Gotta go to bed so I can listen to the rain and drift to sleep.

Today, I got Lasik done on my eyes. And I can see! For the first time since 3rd grade, I have been able to see without any correction whatsoever. The procedure itself was pretty quick with a little bit of discomfort, and my eyes are still a little itchy/swollen, and I had to keep my eyes closed for 4 hours afterward to let my eyes heal (thanks Pookie for leading your blind wife around and feeding her. And for taking pictures- which will be posted later). It was all worth it to be able to look at the trees and see leaves again without glasses. I can look at the horizon and see the fine line where the ocean ends and the sky begins. I can read things farther than six inches from my face. Woo Hoo! This has been the happiest day of my life since I married my best friend.
Things didn't start out so great with Jacquie falling and breaking her arm this morning. We went in for our surgeries at the same time- me for repairment of sight and her for repairment of a crushed radius. She's doing ok now, all doped up post-op at the hospital , recovering.

Our porch is FINALLY getting redone thanks to our apartment complex's handyman Jason. We were promised this when we moved in in March and a miracle occurred and our landlord actually sent the guy over today to do it. And we didn't have to threaten her or anything, but I was just about to.

We went to Mammoth to camp this past weekend and I think everyone had a blast. Between the rain, freezing cold nights, beautiful sights and sounds of the mountains and Yosemite, and the snow/freezing rain that we got to play in, it was an AWESOME vacation!!!!
There's never a dull moment with our group. Even to the end, when we woke up to a bear in our camp, we had our fill of excitement. Woo hoo! We saw a bear!

Yep, my mom is coming to town. And she's staying with us (thank you Randy- I love you pookie!). This is the first time since our wedding that she will be out here in good ol' Ventura. I have spent the last 2 days cleaning things as spotless as they can get in our old apartment building that hasn't been painted in years. Four words: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. The thing is a M-I-R-A-C-L-E!!! I don't know what they put in those little sponges, but whatever it is, works really well on all the black marks on the walls.

The one and only bugg is a real REGISTERED NURSE!!!!! I found out today! Check it out! (just enter my name and viola!).

And, I would like to say that I LOVE my job. It's awesome. I'm learning so much and can't believe I am where I'm at. Cottage is a great place to work, and I feel as though I'm making some small difference in this crazy world.

I did almost puke due to the stink of one of my patient's poop the other day. If you think that regular poop smells bad, you should smell chemo poop.
WOO-EEE!!!!!!

I love the other nurses I work with and feel like I'm meant to be there. And, the good thing is, the 12 hour shifts go pretty quickly. My feet and legs kill me by the end of the shift though. I have very Dr Scholls orthopedic shoes but sometimes the most comfortable shoes at the beginning of the shift just don't cut through the tiredness of running around for 12 hours.

I was able to talk to a 50 year old cancer patient the other day who has a 15 year old son (hits pretty close to home for me). I told him my experience with my dad and he told me that he's having trouble talking to his son about his cancer and how it's getting worse. I was able to give some insight as to what I went through, what feelings his son might be having, and how to approach the subject of having hope but being realistic. We both had tears in our eyes when we finished our talk (even though he didn't see my tears). I think it may have helped me as much as it helped him. It showed me that my dad will never be far from me, and that I should always take advantage of those moments that I can use his life and my experience to help other people.

I love being a nurse. God please give me the strength to never stop loving what I do, because I was created to do this.

I am not usually a Disney Channel watcher, but this morning I came across a show titled "The Doodlebops". Maybe all of you parents out there have heard of the show, or your kids may watch it everyday, but as a non-parent, I was actually impressed by it. At first glance, I thought that someone would have to be either very young or too high on LSD to watch the Doodlebops. But, I was captivated (and I fit neither one of the categories I might add) and thought that it was a great show for kids. Do any of you parents with young kids ever watch this show? It seems to be very educational and entertaining. All I kept on thinking was how much Levi would love it. Check the Doodlebops out!

I had an awesome time with all my friends on the cruise this past week. Besides forgetting something and having a stressful late start, everything was smooth sailing. We had a total of 18 people in our group (including babies): Me, Randy, Martha, Jared, Nate, Kristen, Conrad, Whitney, another Kristen, Sara, Dan, Avery, Alex, Celeste, Ann, David, Mikee, and Vera. I guess my sleep schedule (of lack of, I should say) finally caught up with me. Last night I slept 13 hours straight, then I took a 45 minute nap during the day. I think that's a world record for me sleeping when I haven't been sick. My best friend Kristen can sleep for like 24 hours straight. She hibernates. I want to be a hibernater. I felt great today, only now I can't go to sleep and it's after 1 am. Oh well, no pressure. I don't have to be at work until 6:30 pm.

Night Shift

I have completed 2 night shifts now at the hospital. I love it! I kind of get into a slump at like 5:00am, but then I just refuel or get some caffeine and I'm fine. It is very quiet but, despite what most people think, there are a lot of patients who do not sleep at night. Some of the nurses do though. I can't nap it because I think if I fell asleep I wouldn't be able to truly wake up and be productive. I just try to sleep enough between shifts and chug on through. Maybe once I start working and having kids, the nap breaks will be more enticing.

I want to build an indoor mini-mall complete with food court (with all the traditional favorites), clothes stores, movie theatre, and other fun things for all the people out there who work the night shift. Night shift cops, nurses, housekeeping, military personnel, factory workers, firefighters, etc... all need places to go and hang out at 3-4 am when they aren't working.

Sorry I'm rambling in this blog. I've been up all night and all day and I'm pretty tuckered out. Goodnight! (or is it good morning????)

This lady, whom I have never before in my life seen nor met , came up behind me in line, looked at my tray, and said to me "Wow. You must be really hungry! Are you really going to eat all that?" (I had a half cup of mixed veggies, a 6 roll of sushi, green jello, and a small thing of milk on my tray). I said "Yeah" puzzedly, like who are you woman that I've never seen before who is asking about my food intake!?!?!? Then, to top it off, she said "I guess you're skinny, you can eat all that." After giving the woman my all time best 'confused' look, I picked up my tray and walked away.
Who was that woman? Part of the food police?

After technically being on school break for 2 weeks now, I FINALLY feel as if I am relaxing. I have abso-freakin-lutely nothing to do today except watch Little House on the Prairie and eat Veggie Booty. YAY!!!! This is the life. Maybe I should just quit school and be a housewife. Enjoy myself and eat the Booty before we have kids and I begin the toughest job of my life- child rearing- for no pay whatsoever.
Hmmm...maybe not. I should just enjoy my two more weeks off (one of which will be spent in Indiana) before I have to go head first into school again. Then graduate, get a job, and go from there.
But for now, back to the Booty and Ma and Pa.

It's finally here! The best holiday of the year (in my opinion)! My favorite Christmas pasttime is watching the video of my dad's last 2 Christmases. They are funny, and I like to remember how my family once was. Even my great grandma is in the videos. My grandpa is healthy, and my grandma does a high school cheer complete with hand/arm motions. My family sings carols (well, we tried anyway) and is at their best in the videos. The sad part? The tape is in Indiana, where I'm not. I really need to make copies so that I can reminesce out here in California.

It is official: I am done with NS30 and I have one more semester to go in nursing school! Woo hoo! After I took my final yesterday, I could literally feel the stress fall away from my shoulders, then tiredness overwhelmed me for 10-15 minutes. It was like a weight was lifted and I felt 10 pounds lighter. It's funny what stress can do to a person! Now if I could only find out a way to prevent the stress from coming back to reside on my shoulders January 9th. That would be no small feat!!!!
I'll be on my way to Kansas City tomorrow to be with my friend Angie. She's in nursing school too and takes her finall tomorrow. We'll probably go out and do some stress reducing activities the next few days- God knows that she needs it WAY more than I do.
So, that being said, I'm off and won't blog for a week or so. Don't miss me too much!

It is official: we are ready for Christmas. Except for the shopping part, we are ready. The tree is up, the lights are up, and our yearly ornament has been made and hung. Randy and I have a whole 2 ornaments this year. Life is good. I wonder how many more ornaments God will let us make in this lifetime together. I wonder what kind of things will be put into the ornament next year...maybe stuff my first nursing paycheck stub into the clear glass bulb. Hmmm....

God is trying to teach me how to be a really good nurse. He's giving me more experiences to practice my skills all the time, even though I'm really not asking for them in the capacity that they seem to come at me.
I never quite grasped how fragile really is until lately. I mean REALLY grasped it. I have held the fragility in my hands. Literally.
Thank God for Randy who knows how to pray and that I know how to shut off emotions for a long enough time to use the knowledge I've learned to help people.
Without a doubt God puts us in the right place at the right time he wants us to be there.

it was always burnin since the world's been turnin.....

So this morning, I woke to my husband's voice telling me on the phone that maybe I should wake up and check out a fire that is burning in the hills above our apartment. Funny thing is, he had awaken me from a dream I was having about a fire. When I woke up and smelled the smoke in our home, I found out why the dream seemed so real. Just to be on the safe side, I packed all of our momentos/photos into 2 huge bags along with some clothes just in case we need to evacuate. I even packed my nursing books like a good little student. Too bad, can't spare the fish, but they'd probably die soon anyway of fin rot. Randy pleaded for me to pack his video games, and I did. Atleast if we needed money we could sell them.
I can currently see the flames and dark billowing smoke from where we live. The helicopters are flying right over our apartment carrying the water and making drops not too far away from where we are. Ashes are everywhere. Looks like it's spitting snow (Indiana term for snow flurries). Poli is closed off at the top of our street. I ran an errand earlier and when I got back to my street, it was blocked off from Main St. I had to flash my i.d. and tell the cops there that I lived in the lovely apartments on Aliso and they let me through.
It's weird now, sitting in our apartment, looking at the stuff all around me (on the walls, in bookcases, on the floor, in closets) that have been designated flame-worthy. None of those other things really mean that much to me I guess. It's a weird feeling, that the stuff I'm surrounded by daily is not in the bags and the stuff that is in the bags usually are put away in dark closets. What means the most to Randy and me is lying in a heap in the middle of our kitchen floor, ready to be saved. All the other stuff I will look at in a different way now. Not that I want to lose my home in any way, but what I have picked to be saved really shows what kind of stuff I could really live without.

We can't even give a kid a Tylenol in the hospital without parental notification, yet it is not illegal to perform a surgery? That is so completely wrong, no matter which way they try and justify it.

AND, I am sick of the California Nurses Association. There are around 300,000 nurses in this state and the CNA says that they represent all of them. That's such crap! Of all those nurses, only something like 67,000 are actually members of the organization. They DO NOT represent all nurses, or even a majority, and all the things they do in the public's eye are quite embarrassing . I hate unions. I guess that most of California voters like their money being taken away by an organization who does not even support the same views as they themselves do.

There are many more things I could say about the election (California is full of a bunch of morons) but I have a final exam to take.
